Goddamnit Mr.Gallagher. Voice of Johto that you are, your daughter doesn’t qualify as gear B[

Name: Shea Gallager

Age: 37

Height/Weight: 201lbs/ 6’3

Hometown/Region: Castelia City, Unova

Military Position: Johto Communications Officer

Extra items: Headphones, Morse code diagrams, code notebooks, sugar cubes (for Morrigan), picture of late wife and daughter, military-issued hunting knife, a small woolly kitten bauble his daughter knit for him.

Personality: Adventurous, loud, proud and always ready to swing a fist when prompted, Shea is the sort of man who would have been more at home on the frontlines beating the ever-loving crap out of what or whoever is the designated enemy, and absolutely would have, if not for the fact that he thinks the mortality rate of someone working from the base is significantly more favorable.
After all, he does have a daughter to go home to.

Working as a translator in the deserts of Unova, Shea comes off as a bit of a hick due to his accent and general boisterousness….which is hiding the small fact of his ability to converse fluently in over eight different regional dialects and read across a large number of scripts and codes as a linguistics major. He is open-minded, accepting and has a deep love for studying the traditions of the places he is posted to and comes off as well-read, if not an extremely rash man whose dialect has the tendency to go into Angry Irish Gibberish when pissed off….which is fairly easy to do in all honesty.

In all accounts, the man has his team’s best interests at heart and is a bleeding heart of the highest degree….which is quite plainly, why you shouldn’t try to go into his deep end.

…Leading us to one of his massive weak spots: Violence. One would be surprised how a person as eager to use his fists as this man managed to sit through an entire course about diffusing tense situations with words instead of affirmative action; While absolutely professional in his job due to his crippling fear of losing it again as he once did back home, out of uniform, it would be a wise decision indeed to avoid either offering him a drink, due to his inability to control himself on just how much he consumes before getting plastered and starts throwing tables around or pushing his buttons as many an angry and foolish drunk can attest to, as well as, sadly, his own daughter.

This is why he doesn’t drink anymore despite being extremely tempted to do so. Honestly guys, he’d love to party with you and all, but seriously. No hard drinks. Nada. Zilch. His daughter will thank you very kindly for it. And his sanity.

Which leads us to family: Shea, being a alchohol workaholic is not in any sense of the word, a perfect dad.
He’s forgotten a good six out of seven of his daughter’s own birthday (he only remembered her last one where his attempts at baking a cake failed miserably and he and bought her a stuffed animal in a color she didn’t appreciate) and almost all of his wedding anniversaries up until the time his wife passed away. He’s absolutely clueless as to what his daughter likes or prefers to wear and generally can’t be trusted to appear at any recital or important school event. He damn well can’t help you with your math homework (he hates numbers) either, and hopefully you know how to cook for yourself.

Nonetheless, he’s recently come to the sobering fact that after the death of his wife, his daughter is all he has left, and he doesn’t intend to lose her, ever. As such, while he’s still far from being dad of the year, between this new job which pays rather well, learning to cook, to brush her hair and listening to her talk about school, he’s trying. Hard.

When it comes to Pokemon, Shea is rather accepting of them, provided they’re generally well-behaved and nice…..or else get bludgeoned into submission. Morrigan is pretty much his second-in-command and confidante, and he believes, due to her ability to talk to him extensively using code, that these animals are far smarter than they were previously given credit for.

Backstory:
The Gallaghers were originally Johto immigrants who moved away from the region in search of the Unovan Dream in the supposedly gold-paved streets of Castelia City. Needless to say, those reports were greatly exaggerated but the clan decided to make base there anyway and quickly immersed themselves in the new culture of their home. Where Johto tended to be rather homogenous, Unova was an absolute melting pot of cultures and Shea, the youngest of three siblings loved every bit of it.

While his brothers went for most conventional jobs as they grew up to make a living, this kid bred on Rudyard Kipling books and tall tales about lands far away decided to extend his education to major with honors in linguistic studies, which was about the same time he met his wife.
Their romance was a whirlwind one and he made it a habit of sweeping her off her feet; it was no news to many that the pair were engaged only three months after meeting one another, and he was called to duty in Unova’s vast desert where he worked as a translator and communications chief while helping the military forces there guard the many tribes from inciting civil war upon one another.

Work pretty much consumed him at this stage; no doubt the many argumentative tribal leaders giving him most of the grey hair he now sports, but it was something he loved doing---going from one place to another, learning about them, getting into the occasional fight and making a few friends along the way, one whom he is in close contact with even until today, Qasrina.

Home was another matter. As expected, his absolute, driven loyalty to his job was also driving a thick wedge between the wife and he, and arguments became a staple in the house whenever he returned. This only served to frustrate him deeper and drive him further away from her and deeper into his work, his daughter becoming the only reason he bothers to drag his boots back home. Despite this, some of that love remained and he sought to try and patch things up between them , attempting to negotiate for better hours after receiving a phone call from his daughter who barely knew how to use the damn thing, asking him when he was going to come home for her sixth birthday.

Of course, life decided to royally fuck with him when his wife died en route to pick him up from the nearby base one night, and so began his descent into drunken sorrow, which quickly turned into drunken violence.
He was summarily fired from his post after getting into a physical scuffle with a commanding officer (As per written on the report, whereas the actual incident left said man bedridden for at least two weeks) and lost custody of his daughter after she accidentally set him off and earned a broken hand in return. This was pretty much the red light which told him to get his goddamn shit in order and clean up.

After about a year getting off the bottle, learning to control his anger with the help of his friend Qasrina and finding a job opening back in his clan’s homeland of Johto in dire need of language specialists due to the odd influx of accented immigrant individuals with varying dialects in the army, he leapt at the chance to try and prove himself worthy of taking care of his little girl.

With his daughter once more released into his care in a probatory manner and the promise of allowing social services visits every month, both father and daughter, with a lot of bridges to mend set off for Johto.

DAUGHTER:

Name: Aislin Gallagher

Age: 7

Hometown/Region: Castelia City, Unova

Military Position: None. Civilian/ Military Dependent/Military Brat

Extra items: Books. Books. More Books. Glasses. Cellophane tape for glasses. Paper with numbers to call in case daddy comes home funny.

Personality: A quiet and introspective little thing, words come by hard for her----due to having been bullied for her waifish build and bookish tendencies, she has a habit of retreating into her own world and generally prefers not to talk to anyone but a few select individuals she feels safe with, and she has every right to be cautious;
Aislin’s seven years of life was made up of children who teased her for everything from her glasses to her books to the gap between her teeth, hearing her mother and father yell at each other while she hid upstairs, and her own father accidentally breaking her hand in a drunken rage .
Short to say, there aren’t many people she likes in this world and even less that she trusts though she always puts on a relatively polite façade when talking to adults.

Her father’s job intrigues her greatly and despite knowing how terrifying he can become under bad conditions, she loves him as he’s all she has left and the fact that he’s trying to be good for her, and at the same time she fears what he will do once he loses control of himself again.

So far so good, but she knows to retreat into her room, lock it and call Qasrina when her dad stumbles through the door and starts slurring his words; These were his direct orders to her, no dice.

Asides books and visiting the soldiers when she has the chance, she adores her father’s Woobat and Pokemon in general, intrigued by the power they hold and how they tend to play a part in all the storybooks he reads to her.
While daddy is at work, she's under the care of a nanny and receives frequent phone calls from him she constantly looks forward to.

POKEMON:

MORRIGAN (Woobat)

Gender: Female

Nature: Docile

Ability: Unaware

Item: None

Location Caught: Unova

Attacks: [Supersonic][Reflect][Confusion][Charge Beam]

Accesories/Clothes: None

Notable Markings: Fur shielding eyes has been trimmed.

Speech abilty: No, but can communicate with humans via Morse Code.

Morrigan comes from one of the rare, few species of Pokémon who easily adapt to new surroundings, form quick bonds with humans, are generally docile and show much potential as communication agents due to their flight abilities, rudimentary psychic powers and sonar clicks which enable them to both learn human-based codes quickly, understand them and use them in perfect order. As such, they were prime target for military use.

When first caught from her homeland, the little Woobat was certainly indignant at having been manhandled as such but quickly grew to understand how things worked here: They would set tasks for her. Rather fun tasks, she thought, for which the reward would be delicious treats and words of encouragement. A sassy, intelligent creature, she learnt quickly and began to appreciate the complexity of humans before she was assigned to the new human named Shea, whom she understood to be her new handler.

She gets along extremely well with him, often found clinging on his shoulders and clicking away Morse Code at him to which he answers back, leading many watching them to think the man has lost his marbles. The fact that he talks to her like an equal is the main reason she respects and adores him, even if his hotheadedness sometimes warrants a wing-smack to the head which he generally takes in good stride.

Generally if Shea is too excitable and is spouting Angry Irish Gibberish again, she takes over the airwaves and click-click-dashes orders or co-ordinates to respective soldiers.
She loves her job, her human and the little human cub her human cares for.

Everyone else can quite simply go to hell.
